Day 9: “Silence in the Autorack”

Daniel Conderman Posted on 3 months ago 4 min read
DALL·E 2025-02-24 01.22.38 - A tense post-apocalyptic scene inside a dark, rusted autorack train car. Survivors, armed with makeshift weapons, huddle near the entrance, their face

🎲GAME/BLOG INTRODUCTION
Welcome back, survivors, to Tracks of Terror: The Last Train to Save Your Butt—or, at least, we hope it remains our lifeline. I’m Barnabas, and every day I fight tooth and nail to keep us all alive aboard this undead-haunted train. Yesterday, I was waiting for Penny’s take on how to handle the rest of this autorack… but she never responded. That kind of silence is dangerous around here—both for her and for all of us.

🎁 HOW IT WORKS
Each train car (or part of a train car, since we only clear about 50% at a time) presents us with five possible actions: Fight ⚔️, Sneak 👣, Improvise 🛠️, Persuade 🗣️, or Loot 🔍. I reveal whether our choice was brilliant or tragic the next day. Keep track of your correct guesses for our mystery prize, and remember, we sometimes stumble upon loot boxes that offer big rewards—assuming we survive to claim them.

🦠 BACKSTORY REMINDER
After escaping a wrecked train teeming with zombies, I leapt onto a second locomotive with a handful of other survivors. We’ve been trying to lock down this autorack car step by step, ridding it of the undead that keep popping up among the parked vehicles. Yesterday, we pressed on to finish the job… but Penny didn’t weigh in. Without her voice, we lost a crucial perspective—and maybe a helping hand.

Day 9: “Silence in the Autorack”

Yesterday’s Half-Complete Encounter

Our group tried pushing deeper into the autorack to finish clearing it. Some survivors insisted we continue the direct approach (Fight), others argued for a stealthy infiltration (Sneak), and a few wanted to rummage for supplies (Loot). Meanwhile, Penny went silent. We couldn’t find her anywhere in the flickering light. Her absence left us understaffed and unsure.

Partial Success, High Tension

  • We managed to drive the undead back another row of vehicles, using a mix of brute force and quick takedowns. But with no unified plan, it got messy.
  • One survivor nearly lost an arm when a zombie lunged out from under a convertible. The rest of us sprang in, finishing it off, but not before the poor guy took a nasty bite.
  • Penny’s usual skill at coordinating or persuading folks was sorely missed. By the time we realized she was AWOL, it was too late—another wave of the undead forced us to regroup and hold tight.

Penny’s Peril

As dawn’s dull light filters through the autorack’s slits, there’s still no sign of Penny. Some say they heard rummaging in the next car. Others claim she might’ve locked herself in one of the SUVs. I’m worried. If she doesn’t check in by tomorrow, we might find her as one of them—or not at all.

Subtle Clue: A battered camper shell strapped to the floor has fresh scratches along the edge. Penny’s crowbar is missing from the makeshift weapons rack. Could she have pried it open for shelter—or to hide from something worse?

THE SCENE: A DANGEROUS STALEMATE

We’re so close to fully securing this autorack. The moans and shuffles from deeper in the car are fewer in number now, but the survivors are spooked. Tension crackles like static in the stale air.

  • A group wants to charge through and finish it off.
  • Another insists we wait, maybe set traps, because rushing in after yesterday’s fiasco could be fatal.
  • And me? I want to find Penny. She’s proven herself a level head—when she’s here. But the clock is ticking, and the longer we wait, the more likely the undead will regroup… or Penny’s luck runs out.

SUBMIT YOUR GUESS BELOW
We must push forward to secure the final pockets of the autorack. How do we proceed, especially with Penny MIA?

  1. Fight ⚔️ – Gather the bravest survivors, wage a final assault on the last zombies.
  2. Sneak 👣 – Move in pairs, quietly searching each vehicle row, eliminating threats before they notice us.
  3. Improvise 🛠️ – Block off exits, set traps, force the undead into a kill zone where we have the advantage.
  4. Persuade 🗣️ – Rally the frightened survivors for a synchronized push, reminding them there’s strength in numbers. (We sure could use Penny’s help here…)
  5. Loot 🔍 – Focus on rummaging for gear—especially in that camper shell or any locked trunks. Maybe we’ll find Penny, or a clue to her whereabouts.

🔥 CLIFFHANGER: WHERE IS PENNY?
Tomorrow, we’ll learn how this next attempt plays out—whether we finally clear the autorack… or pay a grisly price. But a bigger question looms: Did Penny bail on us, or is she cornered somewhere inside this metal maze? If she doesn’t turn up soon, we may lose her forever.

Stay sharp, survivors—and remember, your guesses don’t just shape your fate in the final prize drawing; they might help us locate Penny before it’s too late.
