Hey everyone,
If you’ve been around the local nightlife scene for a while – especially back in the late 90s and early 2000s – you might recognize a name that’s about to make a very exciting comeback: Nitetime.net.
And I’m thrilled (and a little bit giddy, to be honest) to announce that I’m the one bringing it back. Yes, the very same guy who worked on Nitetime.net way back in 1999, and then poured his heart into “Madison Hotspots” with my wife around 2005. I’ve officially acquired Nitetime.net, and frankly, I couldn’t be more excited.
Reliving the Good Old Days (and Learning from Them)
Working on those early nightlife sites was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. It was about connecting people to incredible local music, vibrant bars, and unforgettable nights out. There was a magic to it, a real pulse on the community.
With Madison Hotspots, we stumbled upon what I still believe was our secret sauce: thinking about nightlife data through three simple, yet powerful, axes: Bar, Band, and Date. Pick any two, and you’d instantly get the third, lining up perfectly to tell you exactly where you needed to be. It cut through the noise and delivered exactly what people wanted to know.
But back then, we hit limits. The technology wasn’t quite ready for the ambition, especially when we started thinking about how to truly scale that filtering and go beyond just one city – that location-based filtering was a beast! We were more focused on the flashy aesthetics rather than truly building a robust, functional tool. Life, as it does, moved on, and the work was paused.
The Rebirth: Building It Correctly
Fast forward to today, and that passion for connecting people to local nightlife is roaring back. Owning the Nitetime.net brand feels like a full-circle moment, and the biggest difference this time? We get to build it correctly.
The technology has caught up with the vision. We’re embracing modern cloud platforms and smart development practices to construct this app “block by block.” This means a solid, flexible foundation that can evolve with new features without having to tear everything down. And yes, you bet we’re baking in that crucial location-based filtering from day one!
I’m already having so much fun diving back into this. There’s a joy in reliving those good old days, but even more so in having the knowledge, the tools, and the freedom to craft the platform exactly as it always should have been.
This isn’t just a nostalgic project; it’s a commitment to creating the definitive, most useful resource for finding local live music and good times.
Stay tuned. The night is young, and Nitetime.net is just getting started.
